Valentines Day Makeup

Whether you're heading out for a romantic meal for two with your lover or are planning to hit the town with your friends, Valentines Day is the perfect time for pampering and preening. Let's face it, we all deserve it every once in a while! Even if you're sitting at home alone on V-Day (join the lonely hearts club right here!) there's nothing quite like applying a full face of makeup to raise your spirits, despite the singledom that is looming over you. So, I now present you with my Valentines inspired makeup look! I hope you enjoy it!

As with every makeup routine, I start by applying primer. For this I use my trusty Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer to create a smooth and even base for my makeup. The great thing about this is that it has a built-in moisturiser, keeping your skin hydrated despite being caked in makeup. I also dab a small amount of the Superdrug Naturally Radiant Brightening Eye Cream to the delicate eye area to ensure that it, too, stays moisturised and flake-free throughout the day.

I then move on to creating a flawless base. I usually opt for the Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation and buff it into my skin using the Real Techniques Buffing Brush, to provide a medium to full coverage appearance whilst still giving a lightweight sensation to the skin. This has a fairly matte finish but can occasionally appear a little shiny, so I tend to apply a small amount of Natural Collection Pressed Powder to mattify any oily patches.

Once my skin tone has been evened out and my base is complete, I then swiftly transition on to contouring. I've recently rediscovered the Rimmel Natural Bronzer and have completely rekindled my love for it. It is entirely matte, a quality which is pretty hard to find in most bronzers, and is free from any tangerine orange undertones- bingo! To apply this, I use the Real Techniques Pointed Foundation Brush to really carve out the hollows of my cheekbones. Using a pointed brush like this makes for perfect precision, but it's best to follow it up with a brush that has slightly more fluidity in its movement, such as the Real Techniques Contour Brush, to smooth away any harsh lines.

Once my face is nicely contoured, I then work on adding a pop of colour to my cheeks. Using the other side of my Real Techniques Pointed Foundation Brush,  I blend a small amount of the Topshop Cream Blush in 'Head Over Heels' into the apples of my cheeks. This is a gorgeous coral-toned pink which is super flattering on pretty much every skin tone. Personally, I find that using a slightly stiffer brush to apply this allows the colour to be much more easily buildable but also makes blending out an awful lot simpler.
It's then on to highlight, and for this I use none other than the Elf Baked Blush in 'Peachy Cheeky', which is a really pretty peach-toned highlighting powder. This adds a really subtle radiance to the face and the pinky colour is easily buildable if you desire a slightly more flushed look. To apply this, I sweep the product across my cheeks using the Vintage Cosmetic Company Blush Brush to give a dainty luminescence to the skin.

Once the skin is complete, I start creating a simple eye look. To prime my eye lids, I use the Benefit Stay Don't Stray Primer and dab this all over the lid to provide me with a smooth and workable base for my eyeshadow. I then take the Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in On & On Bronze and use the OVS Eyeshadow Brush to sweep it over my lids. Using my Limited Collection Eyeshadow Brush, I take a small amount of Benefit Longwear Powder Eyeshadow in 'Gilt-y Pleasure' and pat this over the top to give a slightly more defined and deepened appearance. Taking the Benefit Longwear Powder Eyeshadow in 'Kiss Me, I'm Tipsy', I use my Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush to work the shadow into my crease, creating more animation to the eyes.

It's then time for eyeliner. To produce a sultry cat-flick, I take the Elf Studio Cream Liner and push this into my upper lash line with the Real Techniques Fine Liner Brush before following the shape of my eyeshadow out to create a thin wing. I also trace my waterline with a kohl liner, such as the Models Own Glitter Eye Pencil to give more depth to the eyes.

For mascara, I use the new Benefit Roller Lash to give my lashes luscious length and a curl that stays put all night long. This pretty much does everything you could possibly desire it to do; seperating lengthening and curling your lashes to give a flawless fanned-out finish. No need for eyelash curlers with miracle-workers like this around!

The final part of my routine is lipstick. I start by priming the lips using a balm, such as the Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream, which not only smells amazing but also keeps your lips supple and sublimely soft. For my lips, I'm opting for a slightly bolder look and am therefore choosing to apply the Topshop Lipstick in Wicked with my Real Techniques Detailer Brush to create a precise and defined outline before filling in my lips.

And that's my Valentines look completed! I hope you found this useful, and if you didn't, then I hope you at least enjoyed it!
Wishing you all a very happy valentines day! What have you got planned? If you'll be sat at home crying into a tub of Ben & Jerry's, then high-five!
